tgcf book spoilers, but one mu qing and xie lian snippet that I think about a lot is this one, at the start of xie lian’s second banishment when he’s surprised to hear mu qing being described as generous and kind:
Tumblr media
as opposed to this memory from before his first ascension when mu qing started giving out cherries to the kids in the city:
Tumblr media
I think it just really goes to show 1) how deeply mq’s actions truly affected xl and what he thought of him, but also 2) just how different mq and xl are fundamentally in the way that they think and approach things.
I don’t have a lot of commentary on xl that hasn’t already been said, but bc we get the story from xl’s pov, we see a lot of mq’s actions being framed as selfish or suspicious (which is fair, bc again, we know how much his actions hurt xl), but we also see a lot of misconstrued kindness, like in book 8 where it’s revealed that he knocked out fx in order to save him. it’s also pretty obvious how much mq still cares abt xl, with how quickly he volunteers as fu yao and the lengths he goes to protect him when he deems hc a threat, so I also think it’s very likely that mq leaving the trio first was exactly what he said it was — that he thought becoming a junior official, ascending quickly, would be the best way to take care of not just his mother, but also xl, fx, the king and queen, and himself, and so in a way, him leaving was him acting on his kindness. but ofc it doesn’t work out, and he spends the next 800 years fighting w/ fx about it, defending himself, his decisions, and his kindness, and nitpicking the accuracies of his statues while he himself remains completely misunderstood by the two people he probably cares abt the most.
and idk, I guess I just think that’s probably a really lonely way to spend 800 years.

Throughout our entire adolescence women will be adultified. Told that we are ‘more mature’ than our male peers. More responsible, more reliable. We’ll be given tasks and responsibilities that are not expected of our brothers and barely expected of our fathers. The oldest daughter will start to clean and cook and take on child care duties for siblings. We listen to mother’s emotional outbursts of pain because ‘we just get it.’
And when a sixteen year old starts dating a man who’s been out of high-school as long or longer than she’s been there, this rhetoric can be used as justification. “Well she’s actually more mature than he is” her mother titters with a laugh. “He’s the only boy on her level” her father says sagely.
And I ask; how is the sixteen year old girl ‘more mature’ than the adult man who has years worth of life experience, the right to vote, drive a car and purchase liquor? What experiences, privileges, rights or understandings does the high schooler have on this man?
The answer is nothing she is simply more mature by virtue of being female. And isn’t that just so convenient for predatory men.
Why do girls mature faster than boys?
We don’t
Men just need a reason to justify expecting and extracting more from us earlier on in our lives.

Emmrich’s that dad who will take every opportunity to ramble on about his kids and how proud he is of them. And if there is no opportunity to take, he will create one. No, I am not taking notes at this time.

OCtober Day 6: Past
Iryna and Mirall today! Growing up, Iryna spent a lot of time at Mirall's inn, meeting travelers and following Mirall around. It was her happy place :)
Mirall likes to embroider, and the flowers on these aprons are her work. She loves flowers, and passed that love on to Iryna
Memories of the inn and the thought of maybe seeing the innkeeper again one day are one of the reasons that Iryna is able to push through. She writes letters for Mirall all the time, but never has the courage to send them. They both miss each other more than they know how to deal with

Look, there's so much that I love about certain otome but I really don't finish every route every time ?? But 7'scarlet, Steam Prison, and Norn9 all got completed! So they get the rec spots!
Honorable mentions: Nightshade (ninja otome, same artist as Norn9 thus I love it even if I haven't completed every route - Switch) Period Cube (I also fully complete it and the art is very nice imo and I enjoyed it a lot but it has really bad reviews from like. everywhere I see. but here's my shill of appreciation anyway - PS Vita) Sweet Fuse (it's just really fun to yell at men for being sexist - PSP)
But genuinely, there's a lot out there! Do the research on the game before you buy them! Not all otome are for everyone.

Thought too long about Hermoine daughter of Meneleus and Helen and got sad
#wren rambles#greek mythology#the iliad#the odyssey#i am actually not 100% sure what stories shes in#but i got interested at her mention in the odyssey and then read her wiki page#girl lost BOTH her parents for 17 years when she was 9#grew up probably raised mostly by Clyemnestra which. no one wants.#her parents finally came back from troy and their re-honeymoon in africa#and three years later shes send off to marry Neoptolemus#an agrragement her father made during the trojan war#(now marriage customs were different ans this arragement would have been normal.#and she doesnt seem to hate the idea [though her opinion isnt mentioned] so it could just be a normal marriage agreement#however it IS Neoptolemus. who is often portrayed as brutal and violent.#tho idk what hes like outside of war. anyway. happiness of the marruage aside#its probably a shock to be Nine Years Old and then when youre solidly in your 20s your dad comes back abd is like MARRIAGE TIME)#and THEN Orestes and Neoptolemus fight over her and she marries Orestes (her cousin. but again. ancient greece)#just. most of that generation of kids lost only their father#some perminantly#telemachus for 20 years#most for at least ten years#but Heromine lost BOTH her parents#lost the relationship with her MOTHER which the vibe i get was SUPER valuble#(if Demeter's attitude is anything to go by and the cultural vibe of mother-daughter relationship)#helen even did cite that she was a foolish creature for leaving her husband and beloved daughter#ALSO Hermione not having any full siblings means something to me#idk just. Helen's only daughter. left behind.#Helen's only CHILD left behind

The Morningstar family just finished cleaning up from Charlie’s third birthday party. The rest of the Deadly Sins came with many other hellmates from all the Rings of Hell to shower the Princess of Hell with new birthday gifts, and the house ended up turning into a sea of wrapping paper once everyone left. Lilith wanted to save her biggest gift for after everyone left because she knew that she was going to spend the rest of the party playing with the new toy she got her. She and Lucifer took Charlie to her giant playroom with many sensory toys Lucifer and Lilith gave her throughout the year that she could not get enough of, Lucifer covering Charlie’s eyes as they went downstairs so she didn't peek.
Once the family got into their massive finished basement, filled with so many toys that they could rival Santa’s workshop, Lucifer uncovered Charlie’s eyes to see a silk, stretchy hammock right next to her mini trampoline. Charlie smiled the brightest smile she could and ran over to the hammock to jump into it. She buried herself into the hammock, continuing to giggle with joy and kick around.
“I told you she was going to spend all her time playing in there,” Lilith pointed out.
“I guess you’re right. Let’s leave her be and give her some time to get accommodated with her new present,” Lucifer replied.
As Lilith left the basement, Lucifer followed her, but before he could also go upstairs, Charlie called for him.
“Daddy! Come play with me!” Charlie shouted as she popped her head out of the hammock.
Lucifer looked back to see his daughter having the time of her life in the new hammock that he could not help but walk back to her. He pushed the hammock while Charlie was still in it, and she laughed as she stuck her head back into the hammock. Lucifer gave her a harder push and Charlie laughed even harder until the hammock slowed down. She popped her head out again to see her father next to the hammock.
“Daddy! Come in! Come and play with me!” Charlie said as she reached her hand out for Lucifer.
Lucifer could not help but attempt to squeeze himself in the hammock just to play with his daughter. He dove in head first while holding Charlie and trying to get the rest of his body in the hammock. Once he squeezed himself in, Lucifer laid in the hammock on his back and Charlie climbed on him to give him a hug.
“Daddy! You’re here!”
Charlie then stood up in the hammock and slammed herself on her father’s stomach. Lucifer let out a yell straight from his stomach when Charlie landed on it and laughed, grabbing her below her arms and moving her so she could sit up.
“Okay, Charlie! I’m here! Just be careful, okay? You’re going to make me throw up if you keep hitting me in the tummy.”
“Sorry, Daddy; I just wanna play with you!”
Charlie flapped her hands and dropped herself onto Lucifer again, but more gentle this time so she did not hurt her father. She put her arms around his waist to give him a tight hug and laid her head on his chest. Lucifer hugged his daughter back and they laughed together before he picked her up and put her down again.
Lucifer laid in the hammock and started to realize how comfortable he was getting in there. He could see why Charlie would love something like this. He could probably fall asleep right then and there. The only thing that was keeping him from falling asleep was Charlie constantly falling down on him and squirming around to play.
Charlie stuck her hand inside Lucifer’s side pants pocket and pulled out one of his rubber duckies. She laughed and put the ducky on Lucifer’s head before it slipped off and made its way onto the hammock. Lucifer picked the ducky back up to give it to Charlie.
“You brought Mr. Quackles to play!” Charlie exclaimed as she landed on her father’s stomach again.
“Yes, and I’m sure he’ll love it here as much as both of us do,” Lucifer replied.
The father and daughter continued playing and roughhousing inside the hammock until Lilith came back downstairs a couple hours later.
“Charlie, there’s still some leftover cake in the fridge if you want another piece,” Lilith said as she heard snoring in the hammock.
Lilith walked over to the hammock and peeped her head inside to see her husband and daughter sleeping inside the hammock together, with Charlie’s head laying on Lucifer’s chest so peacefully. Lilith felt bad disturbing their sleep, but she had to do what she had to do. She silently put her hand on Charlie’s shoulder to wake her up until she opened her eyes to see her mother outside the hammock.
“Hi, mommy!” Charlie whispered, realizing her father was still asleep.
“Charlie, I was just saying that there is still some leftover cake from the party. Would you like one more piece?”
Charlie squealed and flapped her hands until she ended up falling on Lucifer’s chest, accidentally waking him up. Lucifer opened his eyes and saw his wife looking at him and Charlie. She came out of the hammock and wrapped her arms around her mother to have her pick her up. Lucifer popped his head out of the hammock once he saw Charlie out of the hammock with Lilith.
“Are you enjoying yourself, Luci?” Lilith asked.
“Absolutely, my ducklings; you gave Charlie the best birthday gift you can,” Lucifer replied as he made his way out of the hammock.
“I was just telling Charlie that there’s some leftover cake in the fridge. Would you like a slice too?”
Lucifer smiled and walked over to his wife and gave her a kiss. He whispered something in Lilith’s ear so Charlie could not hear him. Lilith giggled and blushed as the three made their way upstairs together for one more birthday celebration with just the three of them.

Last night I watched 3 children while their parents went to a concert—2 five year olds and an eight year old—and they were calling each other nonsense mean names. I asked what one of the names meant and they told me “it means Donald Trump.” I laughed at that because. Kids are funny. And then the LOOK that came over them all as they squinted at me suspiciously and the eldest asked me quietly, “are you voting for him, or are you voting for her?”
And guys they literally started cheering and dancing when I said I was voting for Kamala Harris and it was just the funniest sweetest little moment ever
#it’s been a while since I was charged with more than one kid at a time#but it was so fun to be back at it in a group#and it was FUCKING EXHAUSTING but also:#I still got it 😎#I also left with some very complex emotions about ‘problem children’#because it was one kid from one family and two siblings from another#and the parents of the one kid were saying some kind of awful things about the eldest sibling#and the other parents are their close friends so I’m like first of all: that’s not mature behavior at all#but the main thing they complained about was this older child wanting attention#and I’m not an early childhood professional by any means#but I’ve got about a decade of working with kids 1-16 under my belt#and usually if a child is acting out to get attention… that means that a need is being neglected#physical emotional or social it doesn’t matter#this ‘problem child’ was high energy and a leader in the group#but she’s also in a different developmental stage than the children she spends the most time with#of course she’s going to play differently#and want different attention than the 5 year olds do#she pushed some boundaries because I’m a new person but she didn’t give me actual trouble#and it just made me so sad to hear that after they all went to bed#I find that children respond better if you treat them like… actual people that want to be taken seriously#it’s my second time with the three of them together as a play group and I’m more sure of this than I was the first time#I have never yet met a ‘bad’ child but I have met too many children without the support and understanding they need#but maybe I’m just an eldest daughter……………………………

I think my mom doesn’t understand that people grow apart sometimes and that’s okay
#og#so there’s this kid#shes my neighbor from before we moved#and I mean by that that her house was Nr 1 at the top of the hill and mine was Nr 14 at the bottom of the hill#(it was a cul de sac kind of street)#and when we moved there the people there had a daughter that was a year old so between me and my sister#so as new parents do our parents immediately befriended each other so we pretty much grew up with that kid as a third sibling#except that she got a sister that was three years younger than her#and from that day forward whenever we met up it was four of us#And my sister and the bigger girl would be paired up#And I had to hang out with the baby#which. It was not fun. For so many reasons#but especially because I was just so bored and this kid was clingy and difficult and overwhelming and you couldn’t really….. play with her#and any time I tried to get the four of us to play together they’d still do the teams thing#And obviously we’d lose and I’d get blamed#so it goes on like that for about eight years which is when we moved away#And since then my mom has been prodding and pushing me to keep being friends with a person I was never friends with in the first place#MOM. SHES NOT MY FRIEND GOD DAMN IT#we’re in that awkward in between stage where I know her so I can’t really ask any questions about her bc I know the answers#but I don’t Know her so I don’t have anything to talk to her about#And she just expects me to do the talking even though she’s the one that wants to be friends#I would argue that it’s because she’s a kid but I get on great with much younger kids all the time#fuck. Being in courses with people I don’t know has shown that I’m not that bad at socialising at all#It just makes no sense to me to try with this kid
